FNINR Announces 2023 Award Winners!

Each year at the Friends of the National Institute of Nursing Research (FNINR) Annual NightinGala, FNINR bestows awards to truly deserving candidates who are nominated by their peers. This year’s awards were presented on October 4, 2023 during the 30th Anniversary FNINR NightinGala at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, DC.

The Ada Sue Hinshaw Nurse Scholar Award is considered the pre-eminent award given by FNINR and is named in honor of the first permanent Director of the National Institute of Nursing Research. Recipients have a substantive and sustained program of science that would afford her/him recognition as a prominent senior scientist.

FNINR Announces the Sixth Cohort of FNINR Ambassadors

FNINR ANNOUNCES THE SIXTH COHORT OF FNINR AMBASSADORS

January 9, 2023 – Lexington, KY – The Friends of the National Institute of Nursing Research (FNINR) are pleased to announce the selection of their sixth cohort of Ambassadors. This unique advocacy program began in 2014 and has grown to include over 30 Ambassadors. The 2023 selection includes 12 nurse scientists to join the ranks of others currently filling this role.

Ambassadors are selected from a national pool of applicants based on their abilities to advance public, health professional, and policy-maker awareness of the critical research agenda advanced by the National Institute for Nursing Research (NINR).

Congress Passes HR 2471, Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2022

Congress has passed H.R. 2471, which includes $180.862 million for the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR); this number represents an increase of $5.905 million over the previous fiscal year.

NINR Releases Strategic Plan Framework and RFI

NINR Announcement: NINR is seeking feedback on the framework for its next strategic plan, which will guide NINR’s research efforts and priorities over the next five years. The new strategic plan will build on NINR’s past accomplishments and present a bold, new research agenda to advance nursing science.

AACN Attends Virtual Hill Day

On September 23, AACN joined the 2021 Rally for Medical Research Virtual Hill Day where they emphasized the need for sustained and increased funding for NINR. Along with AACN, more than 400 organizations and individuals joined this year’s event to advocate for continued congressional funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). You can find more information of the rally here.

NINR Director's Lecture: September 14, 2021

NINR's next Director's Lecture: “Addressing One of the Most Enduring Challenges in Health Care: End-of-Life Decision Making” will be held on September 14 at 10:00 am ET.

Dr. Mi-Kyung Song will present her intervention research to develop and test an end-of-life communication intervention targeting patients with chronic illness and their family caregivers, spanning all stages of the NIH Stage Model of behavioral intervention development research.

2021 NINR Methodologies Boot Camp: Registration To Open Soon!

The 2021 Boot Camp will explore the impact that Artificial Intelligence has in the evolving healthcare environment to improve the care of all patients and families in an equitable way. The goal is to showcase how AI can improve outcomes and how to avoid unintended consequences that increase disparities.

NINR is in the developing stages of the 2022-2026 Strategic Plan. The Strategic Plan will outline future research goals, objectives, and vision for nursing science. 

NINR established a working group under the NACNR to identify strengths, limitations, challenges and opportunities in nursing science and provided a report at the May NACNR meeting. You can watch the recording of the meeting here
